What content should be in a best man speech?

I would say whatever is in the best man’s heart. How long has he known the groom? and the bride? He should wish the bride and groom happiness always. Perhaps tell a little story of how they met. Did they go to school together? Are there any funny stories he could safely recount?

Once the toast starts, it will be easy to continue. Just don’t make it too long.

Any “wedding speech” should be “short and sweet.” Just recently I witnessed a Best Man who just went “on and on and on” about how the Bride and Groom picked their wedding date. The Bride and Groom were hungry . . the guests were hungry . . and this guy wanted his “fifteen minutes of fame.”

Here’s your speech . . Ladies and gentlemen, please join me as I wish the new Mr and Mrs John Smith a grand and glorious life together! Mary and John, may all your dreams come true!

At the end of the day, for the best effect, keep it short and sweet. Try to add a couple of one liners in there to make people laugh but dont overdo it or be nasty to anyone. Complement the bride, congratulate them and finish with a toast.
